Incoming 2017-2018 articling student, Adriel Agpalza, has won first place in the 2017 MacIntyre Western Canada Trial Cup Moot with his teammate and fellow law school student, Agapi Mavridis. The three-day competition took place on February 9-11.

The MacIntyre Cup is an annual trial moot competition for seven western Canada law schools, including the University of Manitoba. Each year the competition takes place at a different university and this year the Cup was hosted by the University of Alberta Faculty of Law.

Participating law school teams were randomly assigned to represent either the Crown or the defence, accused of arson, in R v Pellerin. Team Manitoba represented the Crown for a successful win, in the estimation of the competition assessors for the 2017 Cup, an Alberta Crown Prosecutor, and an Alberta criminal defence lawyer.

The two winning teams of the MacIntyre Cup advance to the Sopinka Cup, administered by The Advocates’ Society and hosted in Ottawa March 17-18, 2017.
