Biography
Matthew Duffy grew up in Winnipeg but attended law school at the University of Toronto and subsequently was called to the Ontario bar in 2003. He practiced litigation at a Toronto boutique insurance defence firm where he gained valuable experience through the volume of files, as well as appearing at motions, mediations and examinations.
In 2007, Matthew wanted to return home and start a practice in Winnipeg and chose Pitblado Law because of its people, diverse practice areas, and its strong reputation within the legal community.
Over the past 15 years, Matthew has created a broad litigation practice with an emphasis on:
- insurance litigation
- defending life and disability claims
- occupier liability claims
- coverage disputes
- commercial disputes
- personal injury claims
- wrongful dismissal claims
- condominium disputes
- real property disputes
His experiences include appearing regularly at all levels of Manitoba Courts and various administrative tribunals and mediations.
Matthew has presented on various topics including, disability claims, occupiers liability, damages, and social media.
Matthew is active within the community sitting on the Misericordia Foundation Board and various committees and he is the acting Chair of the Winnipeg Soccer Federation. He is a member of various Firm committees including the Hiring Committee and the Innovation Committee.
