It is with great sadness that we advise that our partner, colleague and dear friend Edward (Ned) Brown passed away on September 15, 2020 at the age of 78.
Ned graduated from the University of Manitoba with an LLB in 1967 and joined the Firm on July 1, 1967. He spent his entire career with the Firm and went on to establish himself as a preeminent lawyer in the areas of real estate, personal property, secured interests, banking, and financing. His excellence and reputation stretched far beyond Manitoba and Ned was held in high regard by clients and colleagues across Canada.
Throughout Ned’s 53-year legal career his passion and enthusiasm about being a lawyer never dwindled. Ned was a prolific writer and shared his wisdom and knowledge through authoring hundreds of whitepapers and articles. Ned was recognized and honoured by numerous organizations such as, the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, the Manitoba Bar Association, the Law Society of Manitoba in recognition of 50 years in the practice of law, and most recently as “Lawyer of the Year in Winnipeg” in the area of Real Estate in the 2021 edition of the Best LawyersTM.
He was a beloved colleague, mentor, friend, and his gentle soul and presence will be deeply missed at Pitblado and by all those who had the good fortune to meet Ned. He leaves us all with many cherished memories.
Out of respect for Ned, the Pitblado office will be closed at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2020.
