4-3 win over MLT Aikins a “grinder”
The Pitblado Pistols hockey team have won the top spot in the 2023/2024 Winnipeg Law Hockey League playoff final in a 4-3 victory over MLT Aikins last night.
“The Pistols took a 4-2 lead into the third period, MLT Aikins got one early in the third, but then the Pistols clamped down with a solid defensive effort, including killing off two penalties,” said spectator and big Pistols fan Andrew Buck. “To quote former Jets Head Coach Paul Maurice, ‘It was a grinder’.”
Two of the Pitblado goals were scored by Michael Lorange, and two more by Connor Cleverley. Michael Lorange was voted Most Valuable Player in the championship game. Connor finished the regular season tied for third place in the league in points, with a total of 42 (24 goals and 18 assists). He trailed first place by only 2 points. So close!
Pistols veteran Bruce King marked his 43rd WLHL season this year and Robert Fabbri celebrates his 50th season.
The last time the Pistols won the WLHL championship was in 2011, so to bring home the trophy in 2024 is a well-deserved and well-earned win.
Bravo, Pitblado Pistols! Congratulations on a hard-fought and fantastic win!
