Pitblado Law celebrates the retirement of Michael Kay, a mentor, colleague, and friend whose career has spanned over four decades.

Michael began his legal journey in 1978 and throughout his career built a reputation as a trusted and highly skilled lawyer specializing in real estate, corporate and commercial law, wills and estates, and mortgage sale and foreclosure. His calm, practical approach to complex legal matters has earned him the trust of clients and colleagues alike, handling thousands of transactions and advising over 200 corporations throughout his career.

Known for his humor, creativity, and mentorship, Michael has left a lasting impact on everyone he worked with. His famous “end of the world clause” in lease agreements was just one example of his wit and unique approach to the law.

In addition to his legal practice, Michael made valuable contributions as a mentor and educator. He served as a past lecturer for the Solicitors Transactions Course at the University of Manitoba’s Robson Hall, imparting his wealth of knowledge and experience to future generations of lawyers. His influence as a teacher left a lasting mark on the legal community, with many of his former students going on to successful careers.

Michael’s impact extends beyond law into the Winnipeg community, where he has played an active role in several prominent organizations. As the current Secretary of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and a past President of both the Jewish National Fund and the Glendale Golf and Country Club, Michael’s leadership and community involvement have made a significant difference. His passion for supporting cultural and charitable initiatives is a testament to his deep commitment to making the community a better place.

As Michael embarks on this new chapter, we wish him a well-deserved retirement filled with family, golf, and adventure. Congratulations, Michael! You will be missed.
