The 2021 Manitoba Provincial budget introduced The Education Property Tax Rebate whereby a portion of the education property taxes were rebated and a cheque for same mailed.

While it is expected the 2022 Manitoba Provincial Budget may introduce a further Education Property Tax Rebate whereby residential and farm property owners may be rebated 50% of the education property taxes payable, at this time that is simply speculation.

Earlier this year The Real Property Subsection Committee recommended that adjustments be made for the 2021 Rebate, adjusting based upon the number of days the seller is in possession, for the 2021 calendar year.

Notwithstanding our recommendation for the 2021 calendar year, at this time we are not making the same recommendation for the 2022 calendar year.

The Subsection Committee recommends that no adjustments be made for any speculative further Education Property Tax Rebate for the 2022 calendar year until such time as any further Education Property Tax Rebate for the 2022 calendar year is confirmed by the Manitoba Provincial Government; it is assumed confirmation might not be received until April of 2022 when the 2022 Manitoba Provincial Budget is expected to be released.

Buyers and sellers should continue to exchange the standard Undertaking to Readjust and be advised that a further adjustment could be necessary in respect of a future rebate cheque pending confirmation from the Manitoba Provincial Government that a further Education Property Tax Rebate for the 2022 calendar year will indeed be rebated as speculated.
